The championship

Four days of track racing

This is the annual championship at which Romania's national track titles are decided, run together with the paracycling championship. It is organized directly by the Romanian Cycling Federation rather than by a club promoter.

The 2026 edition is scheduled abroad, in Plovdiv, over four days at the end of October. The federation has not published its reasons, and we are not going to guess at them.

Background

What track racing is

Track cycling is contested on a velodrome — a banked oval, indoors or outdoors — on fixed-gear bikes with no brakes. It splits broadly into two families:

  • Sprint events

Short, tactical and explosive: match sprints decided over the final lap or two, standing-start time trials, and team events over a handful of laps.

  • Endurance events

Longer massed-start and timed races over many laps, where positioning, pace judgement and lapping the field decide the result.

This is general background on the discipline. Which specific events the 2026 Romanian championship will contest has not been published.

Taking part

A closed federation championship

This is not an open event, and there is nothing to sign up for.

  • Entry is limited to athletes holding a valid FRC licence; there is no public registration and no entry fee.
  • Riders are entered through their clubs and the federation, not through a public form.
  • The paracycling championship runs alongside the track championship at the same venue.

FAQ

Questions

Can I enter?

No. It is a closed federation championship for athletes holding a valid FRC licence, entered through their clubs. There is no public registration and no entry fee.

Which velodrome is it at?

The federation has published only the city, Plovdiv. The specific velodrome has not been announced, so we are not naming one.

What events are on the programme?

That has not been published. A national track championship normally spans both sprint and endurance events, but which ones run in 2026, and on which day, is not yet public.

Is there a course map?

No. Track racing takes place on a velodrome, so there is no route and no GPX file.

Why is a Romanian championship held in Bulgaria?

The federation scheduled it in Plovdiv but has not explained why publicly, so we are not going to speculate.
