CN Triatlon Supersprint / Tulcea Triatlon 2026

Swim · Bike · Run. A national title for every format.

17 May 2026 · Tulcea, Tulcea

Three sports, two transitions, one cumulative time. Romania's national triathlon titles are decided format by format — from supersprint to long-course — at open-water and pool venues across the country. Bring your tri-suit, check the race regulations for your category, and for open-water swims pack your wetsuit until the morning call.

About this championship

A federation-run, three-sport title

CN Triatlon is sanctioned by Federația Română de Triatlon (FRTRI). Each format — Supersprint, Sprint, Olympic/Standard and Half — has its own national championship, held at its own venue during the season. Elite athletes race for the national title; age-groupers race within their category. The categories on offer (Elite, U23, Junior, Cadet, age-group, Para…) and the drafting, wetsuit and penalty rules are set by each race's regulations under the FRTRI rulebook — this page summarises what to expect on race day.

T1 and T2

Transitions are race elements, not pauses

Cumulative timing across three sports means the podium can be lost in transition with a fumbled helmet strap. Bike racking happens in the window set by the race programme — the day before or on race morning. Your slot is your number; your helmet is clipped before you touch the bike.

  1. 01

    Bike racking

Rack by your assigned race number during the transition window in the race programme. Brake check, gear check, transition layout. Miss the window and you risk your slot.

  2. 02

    T1 — swim to bike

Wetsuit off if you wore one, helmet clipped before you lift the bike, run to the mount line. Mounting before the line = penalty.

  3. 03

    T2 — bike to run

Dismount before the dismount line, rack the bike in your slot, kit change, run exit. Don't drop the bike outside your slot.

  4. 04

    Penalty box

Mount/dismount line, equipment, littering: 5/10/15/30 sec by distance (Supersprint / Sprint / Olympic / Half). Drafting violation = blue card, non-contestable.

Water temperature

Wetsuit decision tree

For open-water swims, the official measurement is taken on race morning and the call is announced at the briefing and posted at the swim start. Thresholds below are the World Triathlon rule for age-groupers under 60; Elite and older categories use different thresholds. Pool swims follow the race regulations.

  • Below 15.9 °C

Wetsuit mandatory. In very cold water the swim may be shortened or cancelled.

  • 15.9 – 21.9 °C

    Wetsuit optional. Your choice.

  • 22.0 – 24.5 °C

Wetsuit forbidden for swims up to 1,500 m (Supersprint, Sprint, Olympic); still optional for longer swims such as the Half.

  • 24.6 °C and above

    Wetsuit forbidden at every distance.

Bring the suit. The call is made on race morning, not before — pack for both.

FAQ

Three sports, three rulebooks

Is the swim wetsuit-legal?

For open-water swims it depends on the morning's water temperature. Under the World Triathlon rule for age-groupers under 60: mandatory below 15.9 °C; forbidden from 22.0 °C for swims up to 1,500 m and from 24.6 °C for longer swims; optional in between. The call is announced at the athlete briefing on race day. Elite and older categories use different thresholds; pool swims follow the race regulations.

What's the drafting rule on the bike?

For age-group Supersprint, Sprint, Olympic, and Half: non-draft. The drafting zone runs 12 m back from the front wheel of the rider ahead — you have 25 seconds to pass through it. Blue card = drafting violation, non-contestable, served in the penalty box. Elite Sprint is draft-legal under World Triathlon rules.

How do age groups work and which distance does my AG race?

World Triathlon age groups are 5-year tranches (18-19, 20-24, 25-29, …). Your AG is set by your age on December 31 of the race year. Each format is its own national championship, and each one publishes the categories it runs in its regulations — so check the event you are entering.

Where do I rack my bike, and what's allowed in the box?

Rack in your assigned race-number slot during the transition window in the race programme — the day before or on race morning, depending on the event. Inside your box: helmet (clipped before you lift the bike), cycling shoes, run shoes, race-belt with number, nutrition. No spectators inside the transition area.

Do I need a federation licence?

Check the race regulations. National-championship categories require an FRTRI licence, and Elite races require an FRTRI Elite licence; whether non-licensed athletes can enter, and on what terms, is set by each race.

What qualification slots are offered?

It depends on the event. When a race awards qualification slots or counts toward an international ranking, it says so in its regulations or athlete guide; otherwise the prize is the national title in your category.

What's mandatory equipment?

FRTRI-issued swim cap, timing chip, race number on the front for the run leg and visible on the rear for the bike leg, helmet (clipped before bike contact in T1), brakes that work. Wetsuit per the morning call. No headphones, no music players, no glass containers in the transition box.

What if I miss the cut-off?

Cut-off times, where a race sets them, are published in its regulations or athlete guide. Missing a cut-off usually ends your race; whether you can finish outside the standings varies per event.

Lock the bracket. Pack the suit.

Registration windows and fees differ by event — check this race's registration page. Add it to your calendar and, for open-water swims, watch the water temperature the week before.
